Common Questions

What if I need help to stay in my own home?

The vast majority of older Australians live independently in their own homes. But, as some people get older, they may find it easier to stay in their own homes with a little help. We at Home Help Local have programmes and provide services and care for frail older people and people with disabilities living at home, and their carers.

An assessor will involve you and your carer in an assessment on the level of care you will need and whether you will be able to continue living at home with extra services.

How do I get started?

This can be as simple as calling the My Aged Care contact centre on 1800 200 422 and you will be contacted by an assessor, alternatively you can ask for Home Help local to assist you with services. The choice is yours. For more information about My Aged Care, visit their website

What kinds of services are available through HACC?

The range of services include home help, transport, food services, home maintenance gardening, social support, personal care and respite care, see the SERVICE page for more detail.

If I am a Carer, how do I arrange for a break?

Caring for someone full time is physically and emotionally demanding, so the Government has provided a range of services to better support carers. Please see our SERVICE page that details the types of service available for you.

Are there fees for these services?

There are fees but they vary and these can be discussed with your Care Coordinator. Special arrangements can be made for those that can not afford a fee.
